Dev. Diary 2: First Steps in The World Generation
Hey guys (and girls),
Today I will show what I have done and some thoughts about the gameplay.
First of all, I think a big period of time lasted and I did not make so many advancements. The reason is simply that I didn't spend all my weekends on it. Partly because I was really tired from my education sometimes, partly because I had some other things to do, partly because I was spending all the time analysing crypto and partly because I was dismotivated about wild competition in the game market today + advancements in AI which literally can destroy a possibility to earn something from it (so I need to think how to get money from other fields).
I think I want to change this. From this dev. diary every next dev. diary will be published once a week where I just show you my progress in a week. With that I will have more consistency in my goal and generally the project will be moving forward much faster.
Here is the video of the first generation:
How you see there: there are mountains and some kind of plains (not perfect, but okayish). I still will be improving this, but the main problem is optimisation now. I can't really make any bigger scope of chunks generation. And it seems that the algorithm is heavy also. This chunk optimisation was created to help with optimisation of really big worlds (and this world is like Minecraft one), but the algorithm iself is heavy and I need to do something with this.
I also want to add additional systems:
1. Biomes materials generation
2. Snow peaks generation
3. Water
and maybe something else
if we don't talk about the landscape generation I still need cities generation (and I kinda found how to do it already), plants (but it's kinda easy), weather system.
So yeah I still have a lot of work.
What about mechanics?
I found an interesting mod in the CK3 workshop https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3192256710
It has the similar base idea like my game, although I didn't really think about adding additional government forms besides corporations. Maybe I should?
Later I will make some infographics about how I plan to realise government systems (and it's really a feeling like you create your own government because you could be able to seriously customise it).
Please, write your opinion about current developments and ideas! It's important for me to hear your opinion.
